Failure of Wiener’s Property for Positive Definite Periodic Functions
We say that Wiener’s property holds for the exponent p > 0 if we have that whenever a positive definite function f belongs to L(−ε, ε) for some ε > 0, then f necessarily belongs to L(T), too. This holds true for p ∈ 2N by a classical result of Wiener. Recently various concentration results were proved for idempotents and positive definite functions on measurable sets on the torus. These new res...
متن کاملExtensions of Positive Definite Functions on Amenable Groups
Let S be a subset of a amenable group G such that e ∈ S and S = S. The main result of the paper states that if the Cayley graph of G with respect to S has a certain combinatorial property, then every positive definite operator-valued function on S can be extended to a positive definite function on G. Several known extension results are obtained as a corollary. New applications are also presented.
متن کاملExtensions of Positive Definite Functions on Free Groups
An analogue of Krein’s extension theorem is proved for operatorvalued positive definite functions on free groups. The proof gives also the parametrization of all extensions by means of a generalized type of Szegö parameters. One singles out a distinguished completion, called central, which is related to quasi-multiplicative positive definite functions. An application is given to factorization o...
متن کاملDiscrete-time control design with positive semi-definite Lyapunov functions
A useful stability analysis technique from continuous-time nonlinear systems [2] is extended to the discrete-time domain. The result is illustrated on a practical example.
متن کاملHarmonic Functions on Discrete Subgroups of Semi - Simple Lie Groups
A description of the Poisson boundary of random walks on discrete subgroups of semi-simple Lie groups in terms of geometric boundaries of the corresponding Riemannian symmetric spaces is given. Let G be a discrete group, and { a probability measure on G. A function f on G is called-harmonic if f(g) = P f(gx) (x) 8 g 2 G. The Poisson boundary of the pair (G;) is the probability space (?;) with a...
